Israel violated ceasefire agreement with Lebanon 15 times in 24 hours

The Israeli army committed 15 new violations of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon on Thursday.

New violations of the ceasefire

According to statistics compiled by Anadolu Agency based on reports by Lebanon’s National News Agency, the total number of violations since the agreement came into force 66 days ago reached 823.

According to the agency’s reports, the latest violations of the agreement were concentrated in Marjayoun, Bint Jbeil and Hasbaya neighbourhoods in Nabatieh governorate in southern Lebanon and in Tyre neighbourhood in the southern governorate.

In Marjayoun, two civilians sustained minor injuries when an Israeli drone dropped a bomb next to their motorbike on the outskirts of the village of Tallouseh.

An Israeli drone also attacked a Lebanese Civil Defence rescue team in the village of Taybeh as they were using excavators to search for missing people under the rubble. Civil Defence personnel were forced to abandon their positions for safety reasons and their equipment caught fire as a result of the attack.

In November 2024, the Israeli military and Hezbollah ended hostilities with a truce agreement under which the Israeli army would withdraw from Lebanon in stages and hand over its positions in the south to the Lebanese military by January 26. But the Israeli government said the process would take longer than anticipated. The Israeli authorities explained that from their point of view Lebanon had not yet fulfilled all its obligations under the agreement, so the withdrawal from Lebanese territory could not be completed in time.

At the end of January, the White House announced the extension of the truce agreement between Israel and Lebanon until February 18, 2025.

Turkey condemns Israel after airstrike kills three Turks

Turkey on Wednesday condemned an Israeli strike that killed three of its citizens trying to cross the border illegally from Lebanon into Israel.

“We condemn in the strongest terms this illegal attack that resulted in the death of our citizens,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said procedures were being drawn up to repatriate their bodies to Turkey.

“As we have emphasised every time, Israel must immediately stop its aggressive policies that disregard human life and increase tensions in our region,” the ministry also said.
