Italy’s Data Protection Authority ordered to block China’s Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence and Beijing DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence, Politico reported.
Rome directed sensational Chinese startup DeepSeek to immediately stop processing Italians’ data.
Contrary to what was found by the authority, the companies have declared that they do not operate in Italy and that European legislation does not apply to them.
The move came after the company had refused to co-operate with authorities over requests for information. The regulator also launched an investigation.
DeepSeek’s release caused panic in the AI industry and rattled the US market as key tech stocks fell sharply on Monday.
In 2023, the Italian authority blocked OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It later allowed OpenAI to reopen its service in Italy after fulfilling requirements.
