US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order titled “Keep Men Out of Women’s Sports” banning transgender people from participating in women’s competitions in the US, US media reported.
Trump declared: “With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over.”
Schools that continue to allow transgender people to compete in women’s sports will lose federal funding.
The American leader expects the US Olympic Committee and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) “will no longer allow men to compete in women’s sports,” his spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said.
Trump has repeatedly promised to “take men out of women’s sports.” He has also threatened to cut federal funding to “any school that promotes transgender madness.”
In his inaugural address, the president announced that from now on there will only be two genders in the US – male and female. On his first day in office, he signed an executive order enshrining only two genders into law. Trump explained his decision by protecting women from “gender ideological extremism.”
