An explosion occurred at the Russian Consulate General in the French city of Marseille on Monday, according to La Marseillaise.
The explosion at 8 a.m. local time was confirmed by the Russian Consul General in Marseille, Stanislav Oransky. French authorities reportedly sent about thirty firefighters and police officers to respond to the blast.
The consulate general reported that three explosive devices had been thrown onto its premises, one of which failed to detonate. A hijacked car was also found near the scene of the incident.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova labelled the explosion as a “terrorist attack.”
The explosions of the territory of the Russian consulate general in Marseille have all the features of a terrorist attack.
Zakharova added that Russia would demand that France conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident on the territory of the Russian consulate general.
