More than 80% of flights at Munich airport scheduled for Thursday and Friday have been cancelled due to a strike by employees, German media reported citing the air harbour operator FMG.
The strike was initiated by the service sector trade union Verdi. Disruptions may also be in the work of Hamburg airport.
The first disruptions in the schedule of the airport in Munich occurred the day before, before the strike began. The airport stressed that further flight cancellations are also possible. A total of approximately 830 flights were scheduled for February 27-28.
German airline Lufthansa, in turn, plans to organise a meeting with passengers affected by the disruptions at the airport and offer them free rebooking or refunds.
The media reports that the Verdi union is in favour of an 8% pay rise, but not less than €350 per month. Another demand is three extra days off. However, the employers have not yet announced any proposals on the outcome of the negotiations. The next strike will take place in Potsdam from on March 14-16.
