A magnitude 5.5 earthquake has struck Nepal, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said on Friday.
The epicentre was located 10 km west of the town of Kodari, which is home to 1.6 thousand people.
The origin of the earthquake was at a depth of 13 kilometres. According to the Nepal National Seismological Centre, the magnitude was 6.1 in some parts of the country. There was no information about casualties and destruction.
Over the past 10 years in Nepal there have been 1129 earthquakes of magnitude 4 and above. On average, natural disasters occur in the country about every three days.
A relatively large number of earthquakes were recorded near Nepal in 2015. At that time, 540 earthquakes (magnitude 4) were observed. The strongest of them had a magnitude of 7.8.
