North Korea leader Kim Jong Un touts AI suicide drones

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has visited a test of reconnaissance drones and kamikaze attack drones that use artificial intelligence technology, Korean media reported on Thursday.

The North Korean leader oversaw the work of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Association (UAV) and the Search and Electronic Warfare Research Collective, where he examined new types of reconnaissance UAVs and kamikaze drones.

The tests confirmed the innovative characteristics of the latest strategic reconnaissance drone “with a search capability that allows it to track and observe various strategic objects and enemy movements on land and sea.”

In addition, the strike capability of kamikaze drones designed for a variety of tactical offensive missions was demonstrated.

The DPRK leader gave an important assessment of the military effectiveness and value of the strategic reconnaissance UAV, the characteristics of which are being improved, and kamikaze drones with AI technologies, the agency stresses.

Earlier, Kim Jong Un was reported to have visited a military shipyard where new DPRK warships, including a nuclear-powered submarine, are being built. North Korean media did not give any technical details of the new submarine, but reported that a nuclear submarine with strategic guided missiles on board was being built.
