The Women in Artificial Intelligence Award is an initiative to encourage and empower women-led AI projects. Organised by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in partnership with AllWomen and supported by the German Agency for International Development Co-operation (GIZ), the prize aims to increase the visibility and influence of female innovators shaping the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
By recognising pioneering projects that solve pressing problems and drive innovation, the initiative fosters a more inclusive and diverse AI ecosystem where ideas flourish, collaboration is strengthened and opportunities multiply.
Women from Albania, Algeria, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Montenegro, Morocco, Northern Macedonia, Mauritania, Palestine, Tunisia and Turkey , as well as those living abroad in a UfM member country, are invited to participate. The awards are open to both individuals and teams, provided that at least 80 per cent of team members identify as women and are actively involved in technical development and/or hold leadership positions (including C-level positions) in the project.
Entrepreneurs, startups and teams in companies of any size are eligible to apply. Both impactful projects, products or services that have already been realised, as well as projects in the pipeline with a clear vision and tangible progress are eligible.
Awards will be given to projects in three categories: Most Disruptive Innovation, Most Socially Significant Project and Most Sustainable AI Initiative. Four finalists will be selected in each category and will be invited to fully sponsor a trip to Istanbul to attend the awards ceremony and capacity building workshop. In case of team entries, one representative will be invited.
The call for applications opens on April 7, 2025 and the deadline is April 21, 2025.
