British King visits Kenya

Britain’s King Charles III arrived in Kenya with Queen Camilla on a four-day visit, the first official trip to a Commonwealth country since his coronation.

Charles landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday evening and was greeted by Kenya’s Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi, who is also the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Secretary. They were also greeted by the British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan.

The visit is of exceptional significance for Kenya as the country prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary of independence from British colonial rule on December 12.

Despite a turbulent history, the two countries have built a strong and multifaceted relationship based on mutual respect, co-operation and common values.

King Charles III’s visit, the government says, will be an opportunity for the two countries to explore ways to co-operate in various fields, including trade, education and culture.

The King also plans to discuss Kenya’s colonial past under British rule to ensure that there are no historical grievances.
