Biden takes aim at Trump in 1st speech of his post-presidency

Former US President Joe Biden made his first public appearance after leaving office. The politician made a speech in honour of the “beacon of hope award.”

Biden complained about racial injustice in the US. He also criticised his successor Donald Trump for his measures towards migrants. The former president also criticised Trump over the massive cuts to government workers. He did not call the Republican by name, instead using the phrase “that guy.”

Biden condemned the new administration’s approach to Social Security, saying the massive cuts pose risks to millions of Americans who need government support.

“Social Security is more than just a government program. It’s a sacred promise. We must never, ever betray that trust or turn our backs on our obligations,” the former US president said.

In Biden’s opinion, the Republicans “shoot first and aim later.” He believed:

“They want to destroy in order to rob later. Why do they want to rob it? To deliver huge tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations and keep it going. In less than a hundred days, this new administration has done so much damage and destruction. It’s just breathtaking.”

He also expressed the opinion that the US foreign debt will grow significantly because of the actions of the Republicans. Biden also criticised Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, saying he was far from the average American.

Criticism towards Biden

White House spokesman Stephen Cheung sharply criticised Biden, saying his “rambling speech” showed his “weak mind” and “rapid decline to new lows.”

“President Trump has repeatedly promised to protect Social Security and provide higher wages for seniors by ending the taxation of Social Security benefits. Anyone who claims otherwise is either a fool or an egregious liar, or both in Biden’s case,” Cheung said.

Democrats are attempting to elevate the issue of Social Security to the national level and make it a key issue ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, which will determine the balance of power in Congress for the final two years of Trump’s presidency. Republicans now hold majorities in both chambers.

The Trump administration, after coming to power, launched a campaign of large-scale cuts in government spending. In particular, it conducted an audit of social benefits and found that millions of tax dollars were being spent on payments to people whose age exceeds 200 years.

The US Social Security system was also criticised by entrepreneur and one of Trump’s key advisers, Elon Musk. He admitted that it could be “the biggest fraud in the country’s history.” The businessman questioned the system’s workability after a database of social benefits revealed recipients whose age formally exceeded a century and a half. The registry has since undergone a purge.

Trump also announced a campaign to deport illegals, they began deporting foreigners from the country on aeroplanes to the states where they come from. The US President explained that, in his opinion, migrants destroy the country, as there are many criminals and mentally ill among them.
