Syrian Air announced the resumption of direct flights to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Sunday, marking a significant step in Syria’s efforts to reintegrate into the Arab world following the ousting of long-time leader Bashar al-Assad.
The move comes weeks after Syria’s new transitional president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, embarked on a regional diplomatic tour aimed at rebuilding ties severed during the civil war.
The carrier will initially operate four weekly flights between Damascus and Dubai on Saturdays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with ambitions to increase frequency to daily services “as soon as possible.”
Flights to Sharjah will run three times weekly (Sundays, Tuesdays, Fridays), while Abu Dhabi routes will commence with two weekly connections (Tuesdays and Fridays). Syrian Air stated it is awaiting regulatory approvals to further expand its UAE network, urging passengers to contact its offices for booking details.
The resumption follows al-Sharaa’s inaugural visit to the UAE in early April–part of a broader diplomatic push since his appointment on 29 January. The transitional leader has also toured Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, and Jordan, seeking to position Syria’s post-Assad government as a partner for regional stability.
