A major airport in Belgium was closed on Tuesday due to reports of a bomb on a Ryanair plane.
On Tuesday morning, there was a “threat of an explosion” on board a plane that landed at Charleroi Airport, according to a spokesperson for the airline.
“A security perimeter was set up around the plane, which required the closure of the runway and the suspension of operations,” the airport press service said in a statement.
Emergency services are currently working at the scene. The area is being searched.
According to the agency, the plane in question was flying from Porto, Portugal. Passengers have not yet been evacuated, and all arriving and departing flights have been suspended.
Charleroi, located south of Brussels, is one of Europe’s major transport hubs. It is the second busiest airport in Belgium.
