Germany’s Hamburg airport was closed to passengers, with flights cancelled late Saturday after an armed man broke through a series of security fences and drove into the area.
An armed man destroyed a door and drove onto the platform of Hamburg airport at around 20pm local time, according to Thomas Herbert, a federal police spokesman.
The man reportedly fired his weapon twice into the air. Police also said the man’s wife had previously contacted them about a potential child abduction.
A large number of federal and state police officers were on the scene and in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle.
