US President Donald Trump said that he likes Chinese President Xi Jinping, but that it is very difficult to negotiate with him. The politician revealed his attitude towards the Chinese leader on the social network Truth Social.
“I like President XI of China, always have, and always will, but he is VERY TOUGH, AND EXTREMELY HARD TO MAKE A DEAL WITH!!!” Trump wrote on Tuesday.
Earlier, CNN reported that the White House and Beijing were agreeing on the next telephone talks between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Later, POLITICO linked Xi Jinping’s reluctance to talk to the American leader to the situation that arose with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in the Oval Office, when Trump staged a public scene with his opponents.
On May 31, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said that Washington was not seeking conflict with Beijing but was ready to “fight and win” if attempts to contain it failed. He noted that the threat from China was real and could be imminent.
On June 1, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent commented on Hegseth’s remarks in an interview with CBS. According to him, the US does not want to completely sever economic ties with China, but seeks to minimise risks associated with a number of goods, such as semiconductors and medicines.
