Israeli strikes kill 75 in Gaza, including six near aid centre

Israeli airstrikes on Saturday killed at least 75 people across Gaza, according to the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency. Six of the victims died near an aid distribution centre in the southern part of the region. The agency called the incident a “full-fledged massacre.” Several others suffered injuries during the strikes.

The Associated Press reported that people had gathered to collect food near the aid centre. One eyewitness claimed Israeli forces opened fire when the crowd moved forward. The Israeli military responded, saying its troops fired warning shots at suspects who approached in a threatening manner.

In a post on social media platform X, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee warned residents about ongoing combat in northern Gaza during night hours. He stated that the IDF would target any area used to launch rockets. He also claimed Hamas was rebuilding its capabilities in the region, and the military would act strongly against armed groups operating there.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), backed by the US and Israel, had already suspended aid deliveries due to safety concerns. The organisation paused its operations because of overcrowding near distribution points.

In a statement, the GHF said the distribution had taken place peacefully but became unsafe when crowd sizes grew too large.

The group resumed food distribution in late May 2025. It set up three aid centres and said it delivered 8,160 boxes of food. However, the United Nations criticised the current efforts, calling them “inadequate.”

Israeli forces have also restricted movement around aid centres. The military has declared the zones closed between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
