Trump claims conflict in Gaza nearing end

The conflict in the Gaza Strip is coming to an end, US President Donald Trump said in an interview with American media on Sunday.

The American leader believes that Gaza will “surrender” soon. “The Gaza Strip is ready to surrender — or almost ready to surrender,” Trump said, also noting that the United States had managed to return many hostages from among its citizens.

At least 41 Palestinians were killed in Israeli shelling and air strikes in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, five of them near two aid stations set up by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF). Medics at Al-Awda Hospital in central Gaza said at least three people were killed and dozens wounded in Israeli shelling as they tried to approach a GHF site near the Netzarim corridor.

Two more were killed on their way to another aid station in Rafah in the south. According to medics, seven more people were killed in an airstrike in the town of Beit Lahia, north of the enclave. In the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, medics said at least 11 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a house. The rest were killed in separate airstrikes in southern Gaza, they added.

In May, Israel launched a new large-scale offensive in the Gaza Strip. Israeli ground forces began “large-scale ground operations” in the north and south of the region.

Shortly before that, Trump announced the “final step” to end the war between Israel and Hamas. It was the release by the Palestinian group of Israeli soldier Eden Alexander, who also has American citizenship.

The conflict in the Gaza Strip has been ongoing since October 7, 2023. In the winter of 2025, the parties managed to agree on a ceasefire and exchange Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners. However, the truce could not be extended.
