US and UK finalise trade deal at G7 summit

US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Monday, 16 June, that a trade agreement between the two countries has been finalised, following discussions last month.

Speaking at the G7 summit in Canada, Mr Trump, standing alongside Mr Starmer, described the relationship with the United Kingdom as “just fantastic”. During the announcement, he waved a document, which he said had just been signed, before briefly dropping it.

“We’ve signed it – it’s done,” Mr Trump stated.

Mr Starmer confirmed that the trade agreement would put into effect previously reached arrangements, including matters related to automotive tariffs and the aerospace sector. However, he did not go into further detail at this stage.
