Pope Leo XIV will spend two weeks in July at his summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, near Rome, according to the Holy See Press Office, citing a statement from the Prefecture of the Papal Household.
On July 6, Leo XIV will depart for the Papal residence, located 25 kilometres from Rome. On July 13, at 10 a.m., he will preside over Holy Mass in the Papal Parish of St. Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo and at noon the Marian prayer “Angelus” in the Piazza della Libertà in front of the Apostolic Palace.
On 20 July, at 9:30 a.m., Leo XIV will preside over the Eucharistic celebration in the cathedral of Albano, and at noon, he will recite the Angelus prayer in the central square of Castel Gandolfo. After lunch, he will return to the Vatican. There will be no general or private audiences in July, with the exception of the general audience on July 30.
On August 15, at 10 a.m., on the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Leo XIV will preside over Mass in the Papal Parish of Castel Gandolfo, and at noon, he will recite the traditional Marian prayer in the Piazza della Libertà.
On August 17, the pontiff will recite the Angelus with the faithful in the central square of Castel Gandolfo and return to the Vatican in the evening. The papal villas, where St. John Paul II and where Benedict XVI ended his public ministry, became a museum in 2016 on the initiative of Pope Francis.
In 2023, the Laudato si’ Educational Eco-Centre was established here, which was recently visited by Pope Francis.
