Iran launched a large-scale missile attack targeting multiple locations across Israel early Sunday, marking a significant escalation in hostilities after US strikes had destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities.
According to Israeli media reports, at least 40 missiles struck sites including Ben Gurion Airport, biological research centres, and command facilities in Haifa, Tel Aviv, and central regions.
Israeli emergency services confirmed mounting casualties, with the Magen David Adom initially reporting 11 injuries before later updates indicated at least 23 casualties, predominantly minor. Structural damage was extensive, with direct hits on buildings in Greater Tel Aviv and widespread destruction along coastal areas.
Yedioth Ahronoth documented heavy damage in Haifa, the Shephelah region, and Tel Aviv’s Dan Bloc. Alarms sounded across northern and central Israel as Channel 12 reported “an unusual event” in Haifa accompanied by multiple explosions.
An Iranian military spokesperson designated the operation Al-Waad Al-Sadiq 3 (True Promise 3), emphasising strikes on strategic Israeli infrastructure. In response, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed retaliatory airstrikes against Iranian missile launchers and personnel in western Iran, targeting assets “preparing further attacks.”
This exchange follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement of “very successful” airstrikes on Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Esfahan nuclear sites earlier Sunday. American B-2 bombers had been repositioned toward the Persian Gulf prior to the operation, which Trump authorised after Israel’s assassination of high-ranking Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists last week.
Israeli authorities reported at least 25 fatalities and hundreds injured in Iranian attacks since hostilities began on 13 June. Iran’s Health Ministry cited 430 killed and over 3,500 wounded from Israeli assaults during the same period.
Tehran also urgently called for a UN Security Council meeting to condemn US “aggression” and address violations of international law.
