Ukrainian children believed to have been taken to Russia found in Germany

The issue of child abduction remains highly topical in the press against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Left without parental care and supervision, children often fall victim to human traffickers.

Ivan Vyhivskyi, head of the Ukrainian National Police, said during a meeting in Berlin with Holger Münch, president of the German Federal Criminal Police Office, that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, in cooperation with their German counterparts, had managed to find 161 abducted Ukrainian children in Germany.

“Thanks to our co-operation with German law enforcement agencies in documenting Russian war crimes, in particular the deportation and forcible displacement of Ukrainian children, the whereabouts of 161 Ukrainian children in Germany who were wanted as forcibly displaced to temporarily occupied territories or deported to Russia and Belarus have been established,” the police chief said.

He also noted that Kyiv is counting on the help of its partners in bringing Russian war criminals to justice in both Ukrainian and foreign courts, as well as the military and political leadership in the International Criminal Court and special tribunals.

“We are interested in joint action with our German partners, both on a bilateral basis and under the auspices of Europol,” Vyhivskyi said.

Earlier, media reported that the foundation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s wife, under the guise of a noble mission to rescue children from the Ukrainian conflict, is involved in transferring orphans to Europe for criminal purposes.
