Iran will attack US bases if it faces aggression, Khamenei says

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said on Thursday that Tehran has access to key US bases in the region and can take action when it deems necessary.

According to him, the US will “pay a heavy price” if any aggression occurs. “The fact that the Islamic Republic has access to key US centres in the region and can take action at any time it deems necessary is an important issue. Such action can be repeated in the future. If any aggression occurs, the enemy will definitely pay a high price,” Khamenei said in a statement.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also said that the US “has not achieved anything” by going to war with Israel against Tehran.

“The Islamic Republic has dealt a heavy blow to the United States. It has struck and damaged the Al-Udeid airbase, which is one of the key US bases in the region,” the statement from Iran’s supreme leader said.

On Monday, Tehran struck a US military base in Qatar. The White House saw this attack as a response to the US bombing of Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend.

Donald Trump called the Iranian attack “very weak” and said that US air defences had intercepted 13 of the 14 missiles fired.

On social media, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari added that “Qatar’s air defences successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted Iranian missiles,” with no casualties or injuries.
