The Israeli army (IDF) has recently ended up at the centre of a scandal over the actions of its soldiers in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli soldiers ordered to shoot at Gazans near aid sites
Over the past month, IDF commanders have given orders to open fire on civilians who do not pose a direct threat near humanitarian aid distribution points.
The IDF officers and soldiers admitted that they had received orders to shoot at crowds of people in order to disperse them, even if it was clear that these people posed no danger. One soldier expressed concern, stating that this violated the moral principles adopted by the IDF.
In connection with the information received, the Chief Military Prosecutor initiated an investigation by the competent authorities on suspicion of war crimes at aid distribution points.
According to information from the official representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Tamin Al-Kitan, since May 27, the Israeli military has killed at least 410 Palestinians who came to distribution points for food.
At the end of May, Israel refused to work with UNRWA, which had been responsible for humanitarian supplies to Gaza, and together with the private American fund GHF opened distribution points in areas considered to have been cleared of the Hamas movement.
Israel launched an air strike on Lebanon
The IDF fighter jets struck a building used for military purposes by the Lebanon-based Hezbollah group, the army said on its Telegram channel on Friday.
“A short while ago, Israeli Air Force fighter jets struck a facility used by the terrorist group Hezbollah to direct fire and defensive operations,” the statement said.
In November 2024, the Israeli military and Hezbollah ended hostilities by signing a ceasefire agreement under which the IDF was to gradually withdraw from Lebanese territory and hand over positions in the south of the country to the Lebanese military.
