US President Donald Trump said that Israel has agreed to the conditions necessary for a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
“Israel has accepted key conditions for a temporary ceasefire deal. During these 60 days, we will work with all parties to end the war,” Trump wrote on social media platform Truth Social.
“I hope Hamas will accept this agreement — for the sake of the future of the Middle East. If they refuse, the situation will only get worse,” Trump stressed. According to him, Qatar and Egypt will present a proposal for a truce to Hamas. If the group refuses, “it will only get worse.”
Negotiations in Washington
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the White House to discuss the Gaza conflict. Trump promised to take a ‘very tough’ stance in the negotiations.
Meanwhile, Israeli Minister of Strategic Planning Ron Dermer arrived in Washington. According to The Times of Israel, he was scheduled to hold consultations with Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance. According to Trump, the meeting was “successful.”
The US proposal for a 60-day ceasefire has been under discussion for several months. After the numerous negotiations, the parties agreed on the following: the phased exchange of Israeli hostages and the bodies of those killed for Palestinian prisoners, the cessation of Israeli offensive operations, the redeployment of Israeli troops to the south of Gaza after the exchanges, the start of negotiations on a permanent truce on the first day of the agreement.
At the end of May, Netanyahu said he was ready to accept the US plan, while Hamas responded that it was “studying the proposal” and would make a decision in the interests of the Palestinians. However, negotiations stalled due to disagreements over further action after the truce expired.
