Macron heads to UK to strengthen ties

Airspace restrictions will be imposed over Windsor and the surrounding area due to the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to the United Kingdom next week.

From Tuesday, King Charles and Queen Camilla will host President Macron and his wife Brigitte at Windsor Castle.

According to Thames Valley Police (TVP), measures are being taken to ensure the security of the visit with minimal disruption to local residents. The TVP also specified that on Monday and Tuesday, the airspace around Windsor will be closed to flights, including drones, except in emergencies. The state visit, accompanied by ceremonial events such as a carriage ride and an official banquet, is scheduled for July 8-10.

Under the Conservative government, Macron did not receive an invitation to make a state visit to the United Kingdom, although he has visited the country on other occasions, such as attending a ceremony in London commemorating the 80th anniversary of Charles de Gaulle’s speech that inspired the French Resistance during World War II.

As for King Charles III, he and Queen Camilla visited France on a state visit in September 2023, becoming the first British monarch to address the French Senate.

Macron’s visit also highlights his close ties with the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Both leaders are at the forefront of a “coalition of the willing” discussing the parameters of a possible international military mission in support of Ukraine.
