Spanish PM Sánchez accused of living off “brothel money”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has been accused of living off income from same-sex prostitution.

Demands for the resignation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez have intensified. He has now been publicly accused of living off money received from establishments that served as a front for same-sex prostitution.

Speaking in parliament, opposition People’s Party leader Alberto Feijóo called Mr. Sánchez “a participant in the division of profits from the disgusting business of prostitution.” Then, he pointedly asked the prime minister: “And which brothels exactly did you live off?”

The prime minister’s father-in-law, Sabiniano Gomez, who bought him an apartment, is believed to have owned a network of clubs and saunas where men provided paid sexual services to other men. Mr. Sánchez himself does not comment on the rumours about his father-in-law’s saunas.

The scandal surrounding Pedro Sánchez erupted last year. The media accused his wife, Begona, of receiving illegal services from Air Europa and its holding company. Begona Gómez allegedly played a role in the airline receiving €475 million in state aid at the height of the pandemic. Calls for snap elections have intensified following a recent report by the Civil Guard on corruption among the prime minister’s closest associates. However, the prime minister himself refuses to step down.
