Italy condemns Israel for deadly attack on Catholic church in Gaza

The Israeli army attacked a Catholic church in the northern Gaza Strip, which is under blockade. Two women were reported killed and six people seriously injured in the attack on Thursday.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a statement on the attack: “Israel’s attacks on Gaza have also affected the Church of the Holy Family. Israel’s attacks on the civilian population, which have been going on for several months, are unacceptable. No military action can justify such behaviour.”

“We can no longer tolerate Israeli attacks on civilians…It is time to stop and find a peaceful solution,” Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on social media.

Father Gabriele Romanelli, a priest at the church, was also reportedly injured in the attack.

Since the morning, the Israeli army has been carrying out attacks on various areas of the Gaza Strip, killing 93 Palestinians, including women and children. This time, Israel targeted tents of displaced Palestinians, civilians seeking help, and residential areas.
