Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet confirmed that he had arrived in Malaysia for talks on a ceasefire with Thailand on Monday.
According to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, talks between Cambodia and Thailand began at around 3 p.m. on 28 July.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump, after telephone talks with the Thai and Cambodian sides, said that Phnom Penh and Bangkok were ready to hold a meeting to discuss a ceasefire.
A few hours ago, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced talks between Cambodia and Thailand. According to him, US State Department officials are already in Malaysia to “facilitate the peace process.”
On July 27, Manet expressed support for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire with Thailand amid armed conflict on the border between the two countries. According to him, US President Donald Trump expressed concern over the escalation of violence and said that he “does not want to see war and fighting that will result in many casualties among soldiers and civilians.”
Earlier, on July 25, media reported that the escalation of the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia could lead to the outbreak of war. New clashes between the sides were also reported. At least 15 people were killed in the mutual attacks.
On the morning of July 24, clashes broke out on the border between Thailand and Cambodia. Both sides reported casualties, including civilians.
