The Thai Foreign Ministry lodged a protest with Cambodia, accusing it of another “gross violation” of the ceasefire.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Cambodian troops opened fire on Thai positions in Sisaket province on Wednesday night, using small arms and grenades. The border skirmish continued until morning.
“This is a gross violation of the ceasefire agreement,” the Thai Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, with the mediation of Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia reached a ceasefire agreement that came into force on July 28. However, both before and after this incident, the sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire. Cambodia, in turn, rejected accusations of violations by its armed forces.
Since the escalation began on July 24, 43 people have been killed on both sides as a result of the fighting between the two countries.
Thailand blamed Cambodia for starting the conflict, after which its air force struck targets on Cambodian territory.
Clashes between the two sides took place in a disputed border area near the Ta Muen Thom temple. The Thai Foreign Ministry said that Cambodian troops fired on a Thai military base and struck civilian targets, resulting in civilian casualties.
