Iran can strike US, EU cities from sea, Iranian MP says

A representative of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and member of the Iranian parliament, Amir Hayat-Moqaddam, said on Monday that Iranian missiles are allegedly capable of reaching cities such as Washington, London and Paris. According to him, the existing deterrent system, which was previously supposed to prevent military conflict with the US and Israel, “has practically lost its effectiveness.”

Hayat-Moqaddam, who previously served as deputy commander of the IRGC’s aerospace forces, stressed that Iran has missiles with a range of up to 2,000 kilometres. He noted that development has been ongoing for more than twenty years and that the country has accumulated the potential to strike targets in Europe. According to the politician, these capabilities are based on existing missile systems and continue to be improved.

At the same time, the issue of a possible confrontation with Israel was raised by Yahya Rahim Safavi, a senior adviser to Iran’s spiritual leader Ali Khamenei. In his opinion, the likelihood of a new war between Iran and Israel remains high, and the consequences of such a conflict could radically change the situation in the Middle East.

Iran “ready” for new war

Safavi stated that Iran is in fact in a state of war, not a truce, as there are no official agreements with the US or Israel. He added that the country’s military structures are carefully working through various scenarios and developing plans of action in case of a large-scale escalation.

The adviser also said that during his recent visit to Iraq, not only security issues were discussed, but also cultural and economic cooperation. Following the talks, Tehran and Baghdad confirmed their intention to sign a new security agreement.

According to Iranian representatives, this document could not only strengthen bilateral ties but also have a significant impact on improving stability in the region, where tensions remain one of the key threats.
