Erdogan: Israel took European leaders hostage

Turkey will not allow the issue of Israel’s nuclear weapons to be excluded from the global agenda, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated.

Erdogan told a cabinet meeting that the West was trying to “vindicate” what he said were Israeli war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip, adding Western countries had a “fraternity of lies” with Israel, which he called “shameful.”

The shame of the Holocaust has literally taken European leaders hostage. We, as Turkey, will not allow the issue of Israel’s nuclear to be forgotten.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres declared that a protectorate in Gaza would not solve the conflict, calling instead for a “transitional period” involving Arab countries and the United States and leading to a two-state solution.

Guterres suggested that “a strengthened Palestinian Authority” should assume responsibility in the Gaza Strip after the Israel-Hamas war ends.

I do not think that a UN protectorate in Gaza is a solution.

Israel’s far-right finance minister, who has so far been excluded from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s military cabinet, has called on lawmakers to take a tougher stance on including Hamas in decisions on the conflict, Reuters reported.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and other cabinet members have been excluded from much of the decision-making process and were particularly critical of last week’s decision to grant a US request to allow fuel shipments to the Gaza Strip on humanitarian grounds.

I think this grave mistake necessitates the expansion of the war cabinet.

Smotrich argued that fuel supplies would give Hamas a lifeline during the conflict. He also pointed out that the war cabinet should include “opinions that until today have not been heard,” including from those who have previously called for the elimination of Hamas.
