Muslims perform Friday prayers and protest in US capital

Muslims gathered near Israel’s embassy in the US capital to offer Friday prayers and protest against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Over 100 worshippers carried Palestinian flags and banners that read: “End the genocide,” “I stand with Gaza” and “Stop Israeli crimes.” They demand a cease-fire and the Biden administration’s funding of Israel.

After the prayer, which was held in the rain, protesters chanted: “Free, Free Palestine,” “End siege in Gaza now” and “Cease-fire now.”

The demonstration coincided with the end of the latest humanitarian truce. Early Friday, Israel and Hamas exchanged accusations of violating the terms of the seven-day humanitarian pause that began on 24 November.

Immediately after the truce ended, the Israeli army resumed attacks on the Gaza Strip, causing hundreds of Palestinian casualties.

At least 178 Palestinians were killed and 589 injured, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
