China’s Foreign Ministry stated on December 5 that its visa-free policy has yielded positive results, making travelling easier for tourists.
Spokesman Wang Wenbin pledged at a press briefing that the government would continue to work on improving tourist facilities.
Going forward, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to adjust visa policies to create more favourable conditions and further facilitate cross-border travel.
The new rules came into effect on December 1. Citing immigration data, the ministry reported that about 7,000 out of nearly 18,000 travellers from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia – countries subject to visa-free travel – entered China in the first three days of the month. The German ambassador to China expressed hope that China would extend the measures to all members of the European Union.
The average daily number of tourists from these countries rose 39 per cent in the first three days of December compared with the last day of November, Wang stated.
