US destroyer shot down Houthi drones

A US destroyer eliminated Houthi drones over the Red Sea on Saturday morning.

Centcom said on X that guided-missile destroyer USS Carney “successfully engaged 14 unmanned aerial systems launched as a drone wave from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.”

Since 9 November, Iranian-backed Houthis have launched ballistic missiles and drones at Israel, but all have been intercepted by Israeli or American air defence systems or failed to reach their targets.

The Houthis recently announced that they would attack any Israeli ship in the Red Sea, regardless of ownership. The reason for these kinds of attacks is that most of the world’s oil passes through the strait from the Indian Ocean to the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Sea.
