An Air Canada flight made an emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Saturday night after experiencing a landing gear malfunction
Flight 2259, en route from St. John’s, faced issues during its landing around 9:30 PM AST (01:30 GMT, Sunday). The malfunction caused the plane to skid and led to a fire in one of the engines. Emergency crews responded quickly to ensure passenger safety.
Passenger Nikki Valentine told CBC News that one of the plane’s tyres failed to deploy properly. The plane tilted, and a loud noise followed as the wing skidded on the runway, accompanied by the sound of the engine.
After landing, passengers evacuated the aircraft. Paramedics checked everyone in a hangar, and no injuries were reported.
As a precaution, the airport temporarily suspended all flights. By Sunday morning, one runway had reopened.
