Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was sworn in for a new six-year presidential term, local media reported.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, eastern Cairo, in the new parliament building, according to the State Information Service.
Last December, al-Sisi won the presidential election with 89.9 per cent of the vote. Many residents of the Arab world’s most populous country expressed indifference to the 10-12 December elections, saying the outcome was a foregone conclusion.
Sisi, a former general, was elected in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018 with 97 per cent of the vote both times.
