Almost 10,000 illegal migrants arrived in UK through Channel since year started

Migrants have crossed the Channel in small boats for the tenth day in a row as more migrants arrive in Dover, The Independent reports.

Border Force vessels arrived at the port of Kent on Monday people wearing lifejackets went ashore.

More than 1,000 illegal migrants have arrived in the UK across the Channel since 4 May, according to Home Office figures. Preliminary figures as of Sunday put the total number of arrivals for the year at 9,455.

A year ago, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak vowed to “stop the boats” as one of five key pledges.

The English Channel is one of the world’s most dangerous and busy shipping lanes. Many migrants come from some of the world’s poorest and most chaotic regions, and many seek asylum when they are arrive in the UK.
