American Airlines flight catches fire at Denver airport, passengers evacuated

An American Airlines passenger plane caught fire at the airport in Denver, Colorado. The incident occurred in the car park near the airport building. The footage published by the US media on Friday shows black smoke billowing from the airliner.

American Airlines said 172 passengers and six crew members were evacuated from the plane and taken to the airport building. According to the company, Flight 1006 had an engine problem after landing safely at Denver airport.

An airport spokesperson clarified that the incident occurred at gate C38. Passengers noticed smoke, after which an emergency evacuation was carried out.

The fire was quickly extinguished, no one was injured. Based on footage from the scene, it appears people were exiting through the wing of the aircraft as thick smoke rose from the engine.

The airliner was diverted to Denver 20 minutes after taking off from Colorado Springs Airport. The plane was originally headed to Dallas, Texas, it was in the air for about an hour.
