Turkey is increasing the share of renewable energy in its total installed capacity every day and 2024 will be a record year in terms of overall capacity growth, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on Friday.
Bayraktar, speaking at the one-day Istanbul Energy Forum organised by Anadolu under the auspices of the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, said Turkey is currently capable of meeting the electricity needs of all households in the country through wind and solar power. He also added:
“By 2035, we aim to quadruple our current wind and solar installed capacity.”
Last month, Bayraktar said Turkey aims to increase its wind and solar capacity to 120,000 megawatts by 2035, which would require nearly $80 billion in investment.
Bayraktar also emphasised Turkey’s commitment to developing regional energy cooperation, saying the country will continue to work on projects that contribute to the energy security of Turkey itself and the surrounding region.
Ankara intends to promote international oil and gas pipelines as well as electricity and gas transmission lines with its neighbours, he added.
