The company’s first entry into the foldable phone market is set to be unveiled this September and will go on sale by the end of the year.
On Wednesday, the company announced that its next product launch event will take place on 9 September with the slogan “Surprise and Shine,” marking the first presentation not to feature Tim Cook, who has led the company since 2011.
Incoming CEO John Ternus will unveil his latest iPhone model at this event, expected to be a foldable phone called the iPhone Ultra. If Apple does indeed unveil a foldable iPhone, this will mark the tech giant’s first foray into the foldable phone market. Although South Korea’s Samsung leads the foldable smartphone market, experts suggest that that Apple could take a dominant position in the market immediately upon the launch of its foldable smartphone towards the end of the year.
The device is expected to have two screens – a 19.8-centimetre internal screen that opens like a book, and a 13.5-centimetre external display for more conventional smartphone use – as well as four cameras: two on the rear, one on the inside and one front-facing camera. Earlier this year, images ofprotective screen leaked online, showing straight corners on the left and rounded corners on the right.
In terms of technical specifications, the new iPhone is expected to be powered by the latest Apple A20 Pro processor – 18% faster and 30% more energy-efficient than the preceding version – and will be used in the upcoming flagship iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models.
The research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) forecasts that Apple will sell over 10 million devices in the first year, with the base model priced between €2,200 and €2,500, and models with larger storage capacities priced between €2,600 and €3,000.
Besides the new iPhone model, the event is expected to feature the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra, the iPad mini 8, AirPods Pro, as well as updates for Apple TV and the HomePod mini.
