The Arab League is set to hold an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss the preliminary ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel’s hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
The meeting will be held at the request of Palestine to develop an Arab stance on the ICJ judgement, according to Arab League Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki.
On December 29, South Africa filed an accusation with the Hague International Court of Justice charging Israel with genocide of Palestinians amid the Gaza offensive after the Hamas attack on October 7.
On Friday, the UN court recognised South Africa’s claim, issuing an interim order urging Israel to cease obstructing the delivery of aid to Gaza and to improve the humanitarian situation.
However, Israel continues its offensive on the enclave, where at least 26,422 Palestinians have been killed, with another 65,087 injured since October 7, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Israel claims some 1,200 people have been killed as a result of the Hamas attack.
