Turkey witnessed an explosion at a defence plant in the western Turkish city of Balıkesir on Tuesday, Turkish media reported.
Balıkesir Governor Ismail Ustaoğlu said that according to the preliminary reports, 12 people were killed and three others were injured in the blast, which occurred at an explosives factory in Karesi district.
The country’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that the explosion occurred at 08:25 local time. At the moment the fire has been extinguished.
Additionally, it is specified that the authorities of the region are trying to find out whether there are still people under the rubble. The causes of the explosion are currently being investigated.
