Azerbaijan, Armenia to hold peace talks in Germany

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will host Azerbaijan’s Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenia’s Ararat Mirzoyan in Berlin, at the German Foreign Ministry’s guest house, Villa Borsig, on Wednesday.

Prior to the trilateral meeting, Baerbock will meet separately with the ministers to make a statement at the start of the talks.

During a meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz earlier this month, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan decided to restart the process of peaceful dialogue between the two countries.

Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have been tense since 1991, when Armenia seized Nagorno-Karabakh, a territory internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan, along with seven surrounding districts, including Kalbajar.

Azerbaijan reclaimed most of the region in the autumn of 2020, which ended in a peace agreement mediated by Russia.
