Belarus conducts surprise test of nuclear weapon carriers

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said that the country’s nuclear strike practice is defensive in nature, Belarusian media reported.

The Belarusian leader said:

The test is exclusively defensive in nature.

He noted that Belarus was beginning to work out the second stage of response measures. For the first time it is planned to work out the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons, Lukashenko added.

According to the Belarusian leader, nuclear weapons are a weapon of deterrence, and “no one will go on the offensive with these weapons.” President of Belarus also appealed to the peoples of near and far abroad to stop “mad politicians” and not to give them a chance to turn all life on the planet into ashes.

On Tuesday, Defence Minister Viktor Khrenin said that nuclear strikes would be tested during the inspection of tactical nuclear weapons carriers (TNW). As he specified, they will test the whole range of measures for planning, preparation and strikes with tactical nuclear warheads.

Shortly before that, it became known that Belarus would conduct a joint surprise inspection with Russia using tactical nuclear weapon carriers. Russia said on Monday it would practice deploying such weapons as part of military exercises.
