Biden claims credit for the Democrats’ victory in Tuesday’s election

In his first public remarks on Tuesday’s election, US President Joe Biden, celebrating his party’s victory this week, claimed credit for some of the victories, including the re-election of Kentucky’s governor.

“The Biden-Harris agenda has taken hold. People are winning elections on it over and over and over.”

Biden promoted the re-election of Governor Andy Beshear, stating that the Democrat was re-elected after implementing programmes that “were all Biden initiatives.”

He also pointed to a Democratic victory in Ohio, where voters supported an initiative granting abortion rights in the state constitution. Biden declared:

The only reason abortion is banned in America is because of Donald Trump.

The president also pointed out victories in Pennsylvania, the election of Philadelphia’s first Black female mayor, and Virginia Democrats regaining control over the Legislature.

“Since I came off the sidelines to go toe to toe with Donald Trump, we haven’t stopped winning.”

This week’s NBC News exit poll in Ohio revealed high Democratic turnout coupled with a poor opinion of Biden, with his approval rating among Ohio voters at 39%. Nearly three-quarters, 73%, stated that Biden should not seek re-election, compared to 63% who claimed Trump should not run either.

A joint New York Times and Siena College poll published on Sunday showed Trump edging out Biden in five of the six swing states that the incumbent president won in 2020. Resent results have sparked tensions among Democrats over the weekend.

Biden’s remarks on Thursday were not the first time he has bragged about this week’s election results. He wrote Tuesday:

Across the country tonight, democracy won and MAGA lost. Voters vote. Polls don’t. Now let’s go win next year.
