John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator for the White House National Security Council, said on Thursday that the US would continue to supply arms to Taiwan despite Beijing’s displeasure and opposition.
US President Joe Biden briefed Chinese President Xi Jinping on the relevant plans during a meeting on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco.
At the same time, during that meeting, Xi Jinping suggested that Washington reduce its support for Taiwan. The Chinese leader told US President Joe Biden that the process of China’s reintegration with Taiwan was inevitable.
Taiwanese officials expressed gratitude for Biden’s statement during his talks with Xi Jinping on the need to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait. The US has repeatedly expressed its position on the issue at major international events.
