A powerful explosion rocked a central street in Monaco on Monday evening, leaving three people seriously injured in what authorities are investigating as a potentially targeted incident. French media, citing police sources, reported that the blast occurred on Rue Révérend-Père-Louis-Folla, a thoroughfare in the heart of the densely built principality.
Two of the victims are said to be in a critical condition, fighting for their lives. Monaco’s public prosecutor later confirmed that all three casualties are members of a single Ukrainian family. The parents, a man and a woman believed to be in their fifties or sixties, sustained the most severe wounds. Reports suggest the father is “potentially a Ukrainian oligarch.” Their 13-year-old child was also seriously hurt in the explosion.
CCTV footage captured shortly before the incident appears to show an unidentified man leaving a rucksack at the scene before fleeing. Investigators believe the suspect may have headed towards the neighbouring French commune of Beausoleil. In response, Monegasque authorities immediately tightened security at the La Turbie checkpoint on the border with France, introducing enhanced screening measures as the manhunt continues.
