Body of Ukrainian refugee found in Germany, her child missing

The body of a 27-year-old woman who had moved from Ukraine and lived in a refugee shelter has been found in Germany, Bild reports.

A passer-by found the body of a young woman on the banks of the Rhine in the town of Hockenheim. Investigators found out that the deceased woman was 27 years old and she lived in a refugee camp.

The German media reports:

On a popular hiking trail something terrible happened. On Thursday, a passer-by discovered a dead body here. The pedestrian was travelling between Herrenteich and Lüsshof at around 10:20 a.m. when he saw the shocking find at the NATO ramp (an emergency military crossing on rivers).

A month and a half ago, the woman gave birth to a daughter whose whereabouts are still unknown. The body of the deceased showed signs of violent death, the city’s police said. Her mother, who, according to the investigation, is the main witness to the murder, also lived with the Ukrainian woman, but they have not been able to find her yet.

About 60 police officers are investigating the case. Service dogs have been involved in the search, but so far the efforts of the law enforcers have not been successful.

According to various estimates, more than one million refugees from Ukraine live in Germany. Most of the Ukrainians live on allowances from the local authorities. This is by no means the first case of Ukrainian citizens being killed in Europe, and such incidents have been reported on a regular basis recently.

On 10 February, the Basketball Federation of Ukraine reported the tragic death of 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player Volodymyr Yermakov in Germany as a result of an attack.

The Federation said that Yermakov and his friend Artem Kozachenko played for the ART Giants (U-19) youth team from Düsseldorf. On the eve of their next match, the young basketball players were attacked with knives in the street. Doctors were unable to save Yermakov. On 20 February, Artem Kozachenko, who was stabbed in Oberhausen, Germany, died in hospital.
