Bomb explodes outside Hellenic Train offices in Athens, no injuries

A bomb exploded outside the offices of the Greek railway company Hellenic Train on Singrou Avenue in Athens. The strong explosion was heard in Syntagma Square, where a rally of pensioners was taking place at the time. Earlier, an unknown person had called the media and announced an impending terrorist attack on Friday, Greek media reported.

The call about the bombing went to the Efimerida ton Syntakton newspaper and the Zoogla website. The caller said there was a bomb planted outside the company’s office that would explode in 35 minutes.

“The unidentified person warned that this is not a joke. The area was sealed off by police and traffic on Singrou Avenue was stopped. An explosive ordnance disposal team rushed to the scene,” the reporters said.

The police saw a motorbike without number plates parked outside the Hellenic Train office. A bag was lying on it. The pyrotechnicians did not manage to prevent the explosion, which occurred at the specified time. No one was injured.

The scandal surrounding the Hellenic Train unfolded after the tragedy of February 23, 2023, when the high-speed passenger express train collided with a goods train. The accident killed 57 people, most of them students.

In early April, an explosion occurred in the west of Istanbul, triggering a fire. Nearby homes were left without power.
