Princess Catherine of Wales made a rare public appearance after her cancer diagnosis to attend the men’s Wimbledon final on Sunday.
On Sunday morning, she was in the royal box on Centre Court watching reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz’s match against Novak Djokovic, Kensington Palace reported. Kate is a keen tennis fan and patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club of Wimbledon, which hosts the annual tennis championships.
Since announcing in March that she had recently undergone a cancer diagnosis, she has only appeared in public once – to attend Trooping the Colour, King Charles III’s birthday parade last month. William, 42, and their children George, 10, Charlotte, 8, and Louis, 5, have also been largely out of the public eye in recent months.
The princess shared an update on her cancer treatment, saying in a written message that she was “not out of the woods yet” and that she had “good days and bad days.” According to her, the treatment would continue for a few more months, despite she was “making good progress,” NBC News reported.
Despite attending the match on Sunday, Kate was not present for the women’s final on Saturday between Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova. Organisers said the trophy would instead go by Deborah Jevans, chairman of the All England Club.
According to her, she had “been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months. It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times.”
Prince William has also regularly attended Wimbledon finals, but he did not attend Sunday’s match, instead attending the European Football Championship final between England and Spain in Germany.
