Princess Anne is out of hospital five days after admission with minor head injuries and concussion, Buckingham Palace announced.
Princess Royal, 73, left Southmead Hospital in Bristol yesterday morning. She will remain at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire for the time being for a further period of rest and recuperation and will only return to public duties once her medical team has recommended it is safe and comfortable to do so.
“I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the team at Southmead Hospital for their care, expertise and kindness during my wife’s short stay,” Sir Timothy Laurence, Anne’s husband, said in a statement.
The details of the incident remain largely unknown, mainly because the princess was unable to recall exact details due to concussion. Her medical team said her injuries were consistent with a potential head or leg impact from a horse, The Daily Beast reported.
Buckingham Palace broke news of the incident on Monday, saying at the time that Anne was “expected to make a full and swift recovery.”
The five-day hospital stay forced the princess to miss several events this week, including a state banquet at Buckingham Palace for the Emperor and Empress of Japan on the first day of their state visit to the United Kingdom. Princess Anne was also due to travel to Canada for a royal visit this weekend.
